My B.F.G.

Well, it’s official. I am a big-baby making machine. Really, it doesn’t surprise me. I knew what I was signing up for when I married my 6’3’’ knight in shining armor, who at his birth was a whopping 10 lbs 11 oz., 24 inches long.  Gailey men just come big.

Today, my doctor was actually trying to suppress a fit of giggles as he called my unborn child, “robust”. Thanks doc. I guess it’s not considered couth to call your patient’s baby “fat” to her face. Sadly, I can see through cleverly used synonyms. But for the benefit of my son, I am going to use the term, “above average”. Indeed, you cannot argue that 97th percentile in utero is not quite the achievement.

For the record, I love my doctor. He’s great. Plus he shows strength in being able to hold his composure while discussing MY weight. Maybe only baby fat is funny…?

Here’s hoping that they decide to smoke the baby out before he becomes indefinitely wedged. As for me, I am giving up prenatal care. I can be laughed at anywhere else, for free.

  1. At least your kids have been slowly breaking you in...nothing like starting with a 9 1/2 lb baby on your first! OUCH! I hope Dr. Harter is wrong for you sake still!! One word for you my friend, INDUCE!!!

  2. I agree :) See how early he'll induce you. Most doctors will do one week early. My babies haven't started out that big but they catch up quick. Bridger went from 10% to 20% to 65% and I'm pretty sure we'll be up toward 90% by the 9 month check. Must be those Gailey genes :) Big babies make the cutest newborns though.

  3. I have to say my babies don't have that problem. They actually shrink near the end. However, I do remember my OBGYN yelling at me for gaining too much weight (9 lbs in 2 weeks) I was quite embarrased. Who needs doctors anyway.

Hey, maybe you could swallow an exercise DVD for the little man, you know, encourage him to lose some of that *cough, cough* baby fat? *cough, cough*

  6. So I learned that if you put the < with the 3 it's supposed to make a heart. Apparently not so much on here. Lame. Anyway, that's what that thing is... a heart. Argh. Shoot me now. This is why I should stick to e-mail and say "No thanks" to all other creative cute little things associated with technology.

  7. Awww, the fears of pregnancy. If it makes you feel better, my mom gave birth to a 12 lb baby. (see, it's do-able) They called him a "fetal Giant". So when they start throwing around the phrase "fetal giant" then you can panic. For now, embrace the big healthy baby. lol

  8. I love the fact that he really used the word ROBUST! Hillarious! Man, I guess it's nice to have scrawney kids, for the delivery part, but really, fat babies are SO CUTE!!!! Too bad James is small. We don't have much luck.
